Home made lotions, soaps etc…?

I have recently been making my own home made soaps and lotions. I have very sensitive skin so I decided to give it a go. They worked out great!! My face looks tones better after using them for only a month. I have been using fragrance oils instead of essential ones to scent everything because I have read that essential oils can cause some people problems. Particularly pregnant and those with heart problems. Anyway, I was looking into making my husband some shaving oil and cream and all recipes call for essential oils. My question is this…… can fragrance oils be a substitute for essential oils in any recipe? Soaps, lotion, creams, shaving oils etc. I realize that the essential ones might be nicer but since this is only for my family would it really matter? What is the difference between the two?
Hummmmmm Bath Salts! How do you make those? I can feel my next question coming on! LOL
Fragrance oils are mimicking aromas (Perfumes), Essential Oils, depending on where you buy them and if they are good quality, they are the most therapeutic and natural. I think you got it mixed up. I make my own bath salts and use Essential Oils and Fragrances, the ones i use are great quality and cost efficient. I get them at Sfbsc.com

NO. Frangrance oils are not a substitute for the main essential oils. In fact, you want to use as little of the frangrance oils that are necessary to create the fragrance you wish to have. These fragrance oils are damaging to skin and can greatly irritate it. It would be like washing your clothes in perfume and water and not soap. Also, the esssential oils are specifically for replenishing your skin as it is stripped of its natural oils while washing the face, and fragrance oils would just dry it out, irritate, or react to it (given a few uses). PS. You can find all your ingredient items for soaps, lotions, bath salts, shave creams, etc on ebay for usually a big fraction of the price in stores. They are often overstocks from stores or leftovers from store demo classes they have, and then again some maybe from private sellers that just quit. I got mine there for about 1/5 of what I would have paid at specialty craft stores.

been there, done it.
Fragrance oils are diluted with a carrier making them more likely to be harmful to the skin or even minimizing the healing properties of the oils themselves. As for essential oils causing people problems usually it’s just slight irritation from using too much or using it full strength. For bath products you could easily dilute any essential oil with vitamin E to help ease any possible irritation AND give an added bonus.
I have pretty sensitive skin (and heart problems) and I use lavender oil full strength on my skin with zero problems (maybe a very slight burning for a minute but nothing serious) and it works wonderfully. I also can handle full strength tea tree oil with no issues Best thing to do would be to spot test on your wrist to see if essential oils have any negative effects before you toss the whole lot of them out the window for something you heard may happen to some people. You’re not eating the stuff and you’re only actually putting a very small amount on your skin, so any internal effects (from absorption) I would think would be minimal.
